BUS DEPOT IN LOPEN
The SW Coaches application to operate a bus depot from
Lopen Mill was refused in October 2008 because of concerns about road safety,
especially where Mill Lane joins the main road. The owner of Lopen Business Park, Mr Richard Stone, has now
applied to build a new road across the field which lies immediately to the north
of Mill Lane and adjacent to the main road, plus a new and improved junction
with the main road which will sit approximately 50 metres north of the present
junction. On the back of this
proposal, Mr Stone has renewed the application to open a bus depot in the Mill
for 13 buses.
Whether you support or oppose these proposals, they will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the village, if approved. We therefore need to know your views and would urge you let any of the parish councillors or our Parish Clerk know your views, preferably in writing and in a form that can be used in our response to the District Council. Or, if you would prefer to let the District Council know your views direct, please write to the officer handling these proposals: Linda Hayden, Planning Department, Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil BA20 2HT. The planning application number is 08/05279/FUL.
Note that the Extraordinary Meeting of the PC to discuss
this which had been scheduled for 14th January was cancelled as Mr Stone
has run into difficulties over the acquisition of the land. If the application
re-emerges the PC will then convene a meeting as appropriate.

Elections to the Parish Council were held on May 3rd, along with the election of two District Councillors.

There was a meeting in the Sunday School room at 8.00 on Tuesday 8th May 2007. The new Parish Councillors took up their seats and elected Peter Little as chairman and Nicky Norman as vice-chairman.
